What to expect
Confirm your identity
You have received an email asking you to identify yourself. Before your pension starts, we are legally required to verify your identity. This ensures that we know who we are paying the pension to. We will send you a second email with a link. Using this link, you can let us know who you are safely and easily.
If we do not receive a response and cannot verify your identity, we cannot pay out your pension.
This is what you can expect
You can identify yourself easily and securely online via our own website. You will receive 2 emails for this:
-
Advance notice: We are legally required to verify your identity.
This is a preliminary notification explaining why we need to verify your identity and what happens if you do not do this.
-
Confirm your identity before your pension starts.
This email contains the personal link you can use to start the identification process.
You can identify yourself once you have received the second email. It contains the personal link you need to start the identification process. Check the link before you click on it. For example, by hovering your mouse over the button. The link we send you starts with:
https://www.zwitserleven.nl
How does it work?
We use biometric identification to verify your identity. This means that the unique features of your face are measured, such as the size of and distance between your eyes, mouth, nose and ears. All you need is your identity document and a smartphone/tablet or a laptop/PC with a camera. You then follow the steps to complete the process. Your identity check is carried out for us by Entrust. This is a company that specialises in identity verification.
What you need:
- A valid identity document
- A smartphone/tablet or laptop/PC with camera
Would you prefer to confirm your identity in a different way? You can also identify yourself using this form.

Why do I need to identify myself?
You will soon receive a pension from Zwitserleven for the first time. Before we can pay this pension, we must first confirm your identity. We are legally required to do this. This ensures that we know to whom we are making the payments.
What is Entrust?
Entrust is a company that specialises in identity verification. Entrust verifies the identity of our customers on our behalf. They do this by comparing the passport photo on your identity document with a selfie you take. This ensures that it is really you.
Which identity document can I use?
You can use one of these valid original documents:
- a passport from any country
- a driving licence from the Netherlands or another EU country
- a national identity card from the Netherlands or another EU country
- a Dutch residence permit
Is it safe to complete identification online?
Yes. The entire process takes place in a well-secured online environment. Your data is protected.
Can I also identify myself without a smartphone/tablet?
Yes, you can. First take a photo of your identity document and save it on your laptop/PC. During identification, you will be asked to upload this photo. You then take the selfie using your laptop/PC camera. You must allow access to your camera if you are asked to do so.
Which personal data is processed?
During this process, the following data is processed:
- Identity data: name, date of birth, nationality, document number, expiry date.
- Biometric data: the passport photo on the identity document and the selfie (facial recognition).
- Technical data: such as IP address, time of verification, browser or device used (for security purposes).
- Status: result of the check (successful, unsuccessful, manual review required).
On what privacy basis does Zwitserleven process this data?
The processing is based on:
- Article 6(1)(a) GDPR: your consent, and
- Article 9(2)(a) GDPR: your explicit consent for the processing of biometric data.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Where is the data processed?
For this process, we use our processor Entrust, based in the United Kingdom. Entrust may engage sub-processors in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United States, India and Sri Lanka. An up-to-date overview of processing locations can be found here: https://www.entrust.com/company/subprocessors, under “All Entrust Identity Verification Services”, “Document Check” and “Facial Similarity Check”. Where personal data is processed outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
What happens to my data?
Entrust uses your photos only to verify your identity. They then send the data securely to Zwitserleven and delete all data. We receive only the result of the identification; your selfie is also deleted after your identity has been confirmed.
Zwitserleven stores your data in accordance with the privacy statement. Has the identification failed? Then we automatically delete your identification data. We do not keep it.
My camera is not working, what should I do?
Are you getting a message saying that the camera is not allowed? If so, check your browser settings and give permission to use the camera.
I have completed all the steps, what now?
Then you are done. You will also see this on your screen. We are now reviewing your details.
- Do we still need anything from you? If so, we will let you know soon.
- Is everything in order? Then you will receive a confirmation by e-mail within a few days.
I would prefer to identify myself in another way, is that possible?
Yes, that is possible. You can also identify yourself using this form.
I do not want to confirm my identity, what happens now?
We are legally required to establish your identity before we can start paying your pension. This is based on the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act (Wwft). That is why we ask you to identify yourself. If you do not do this (yet), it means that we cannot start making payments.
How can I contact Zwitserleven if I still have questions about identification?
Can’t find the answer to your question about identification? Or would you prefer not to use biometric identification? Then contact us here.
