Case study: Stichting Pensioenfonds AT&T Nederland secures the future of pensions with Zwitserleven

Stichting Pensioenfonds AT&T Nederland secures the future of pensions with Zwitserleven

In 2026, Stichting Pensioenfonds AT&T Nederland opted for a buyout by Zwitserleven. The pension fund managed the pensions of approximately 500 participants and had assets under management of about € 170 million. With this step, the fund’s entire pension liability has been transferred to Zwitserleven, and Pensioenfonds AT&T will eventually cease to exist.

For a relatively small, closed fund, the transition to the new pension system posed a complex challenge. The board sought a solution that provided security for all participants, now and in the future.

The solution

After approval by De Nederlandsche Bank, Zwitserleven took over the pension obligations of Pensioenfonds AT&T as of April 2026. Additionally, Zwitserleven PPI took over approximately € 3.5 million in DC capital.

Participants received a one-time catch-up indexation of 5.68% in April 2026. From January 1, 2027, they will receive an annual indexation equal to European price inflation (100% HICPxT). This ensures a guaranteed pension with structural purchasing power protection.

Why Zwitserleven?

Bert van der Plas, chairman of Stichting Pensioenfonds AT&T Nederland, explains the choice: “We invited various insurers to submit a proposal for transferring the pension obligations of Pensioenfonds AT&T. Among other criteria, we evaluated the quality of services, experience with previous collective value transfers, the level of indexation that our participants would receive, and the extent to which the insurer could cover the financial risks for Pensioenfonds AT&T between selecting the insurer and obtaining approval from De Nederlandsche Bank. Following an extensive comparative study, the board decided to transfer the pension obligations to Zwitserleven, as they achieved the highest scores on these points.”

A buyout with security for participants

This buyout ensures that the pensions of the (former) participants and retirees of Pensioenfonds AT&T are placed with a financially strong pension insurer with extensive experience in collective value transfers.

With this, Zwitserleven offers a future-proof solution for pension funds looking to transition to an insured arrangement in preparation for or after the introduction of the new pension system.
